PostDoc in Plant Biochemistry (f/m)

Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK)

IPK Gatersleben is a large, internationally recognized centre of plant research that addresses problems of modern biology with an emphasis on crop plants. Our scientific expertise integrates a broad diversity of disciplines to elucidate the mechanisms underlying processes of plant development, metabolism, and interactions with the environment. Our research aims at the generation of fundamental knowledge and the development of genetic and biotechnological tools to spur the knowledge-based use of plant-genetic resources to optimize a variety of crop traits. Frequently, this involves co-operation with various national and international universities as well as public-private partnerships.

For the working group of Applied Biochemistry we are looking for a
PostDoc in Plant Biochemistry (f/m)
1.0 up to E13 TV-L
17/03/14

Employment will start in July 2014 and is limited for 24 month.

The research activities of the group are directed towards an improved understanding of the functions of metabolites as part of stress defense responses. Related control mechanisms are mostly studied on the level of proteins and their post-translational modifications. In addition, the nutritional value of crop plants associated with specific metabolic patterns such as flavonoid composition is another major research interest.

Your tasks:
The position is contributing research in a project aiming at the elucidation of salt stress defense networks in barley mapping populations. A major task of the project will be the characterization of candidate genes identified by earlier proteomic approaches by using a combination of biochemical and molecular approaches. The project is performed as a part of a bilateral exchange program with a partner lab in Tunisia. The position will therefore involve joint research with guests from our partner lab and a one week training course in proteomic techniques at the Tunisian site organized by the successful candidate.

Your qualification:
Applicants should hold a Dr. or PhD in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related areas. Own hands-on experience with analytical techniques in plant proteomics and in the analysis of large datasets are prerequisites for the position. A strong background in plant biochemistry and physiology is requested and experience in mass spectrometry measurements are necessary and will serve as selection criteria.

If you need further information feel free to contact PD Dr. Hans-Peter Mock. You reach him under mock@ipk-gatersleben.de or phone +49 (0) 39482 5506.

IPK is an equal opportunities employer. Handicapped persons will be preferred when equally qualified. Gross salary will be up to 100% E13 TV-L.

Your application:
Please send your complete and informative application until 25.04.2014 to Ms. Gläser citing the reference number 17/03/14. Please contact her also for questions regarding the application and selection procedure.
