The Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities Call for Membership Applications

The Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA) at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (Germany) and the Arabian Gulf University (Bahrain) is inviting early-career researchers to submit applications for membership.

The AGYA aims to advance the academic exchange of outstanding young researchers from Germany and the Arab countries. The AGYA supports joint innovative projects in various fields of research, science politics and education across different disciplines in Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, Technical Sciences and Arts. The AGYA is mainly funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Qatar Foundation. The first 24 members joined the AGYA in 2013 and started developing and implementing interdisciplinary projects and collaborative initiatives.

This call is for members to be selected in 2014.

Eligibility:

Early-career researchers from any field in Natural Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, Technical Sciences, and Arts.
Prospective candidates must have received their Ph.D. no longer than 3 to 10 years ago at the time of application.
Applicants must be affiliated with a university or a research institution in any Arab country or in Germany.
The working language of the AGYA is English. No knowledge of German or Arabic is necessary.

Benefits:

The AGYA is autonomous with regard to the format and content of its academic activities. It offers its members a unique opportunity to take an active part in the life of the Academy and supports them to implement their own ideas, visions and projects in the framework of Arab-German research cooperation.
Members of the AGYA meet regularly to discuss, develop and implement joint research initiatives. Travel expenses for workshops and conferences are covered for the members.
Membership in the AGYA is granted for up to 5 years followed by a membership in an Alumni network, depending on evaluation and funding availability.

Requirements:

Successful candidates are expected to have a proven record of highest research excellence in their field of specialization.
Candidates with very strong potential for academic leadership will be given priority. Genuine interest in interdisciplinary research in an international environment is essential.
Membership in the AGYA requires active engagement. As the AGYA is a working academy, successful candidates are expected to be able to dedicate a fair amount of their time to activities and projects of the Academy.
Elected members will be required to attend the annual conference of the AGYA to be held in Berlin, Germany, in the second half of June 2014.
