Die vormalige Herzogliche Bibliothek auf Schloss Friedenstein in Gotha bewahrt eine der wichtigsten Sammlungen alter Drucke und Handschriften in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Das interdisziplinär ausgerichtete Förderprogramm
HERZOG-ERNST-STIPENDIEN DER FRITZ THYSSEN STIFTUNG
AN DER UNIVERSITÄTS- UND FORSCHUNGSBIBLIOTHEK ERFURT-GOTHA

fördert die wissenschaftliche Arbeit mit den Beständen der Bibliothek und den historischen Sammlungen des Verlages Justus Perthes Gotha. Die Schwerpunkte liegen auf:
- Kultur des deutschen und europäischen Fürstenhofes
- Verlags- und Buchhandelsgeschichte
- Wissens- und Wissenschaftskulturen als Global-, Transfer- und Verflechtungsgeschichte
(16.-20. Jh.)
- Rezeption und Geschichte der europäischen Literatur (16.-19. Jh.)
- Geschichte der Religionskulturen des klassischen Altertums, des Protestantismus und des Islam
- Philosophie und Geschichte der deutschen und europäischen Aufklärung
- Heterodoxie, Dissidenz und Subversion (1650-1750)
- Wissenschafts- und Wissensgeschichte der Geisteswissenschaften (1500-1800)
- Wissensgeschichte raumorientierter Disziplinen, wie z. B. Geografie, Ethnologie und Statistik (1500-1990)
- Kartografie und Imperialgeschichte
- Kartografie und „critical geopolitics“
- Geschichte der Alchemie
- Geschichte der Astronomie

Zu vergeben sind ab dem 01.02.2014 Doktoranden-Stipendien (mtl. 1.100 €, max. 9 Monate) und Postdoc-Stipendien (mtl. 1.600 €, max. 6 Monate).
Betreut wird das Programm vom Forschungszentrum Gotha (FZG) der Universität Erfurt.
