Postdoc in immune recognition of viruses at mucosal surfaces

The National Veterinary Institute at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Vet) invites applications for a postdoc position.

You will be employed in the Section for Virology, one of five sections at DTU Vet. The section strives to increase the current knowledge of new and existing viral pathogens, to bridge both animal and human health and life science and engineering. We collaborate with leading partners, both nationally and internationally, in order to contribute new scientific discoveries, develop innovative tools and services and novel types of interventions. We conduct virus infection experiments from the molecular level to the disease level within a range of appropriate ’state of the art’ containment facilities. Selected focus areas include research on the mechanisms underlying virus disease within the natural host animals, on host-pathogen interactions, on virus evolution and adaptation, and on immune-escape mechanisms and vaccine development and activities related to ONE HEALTH - Integrating human and animal health aspects especially activities concerning zoonotic diseases to provide close contact to the area of human medicine.

Responsibilities and tasks We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join our studies on immune recognition of viruses at mucosal surfaces. Dendritic cells are professional antigen presenting cells crucial for directing immune homeostasis and inflammation. The goal of our studies is to better understand dendritic cell subset development and function in the context of steady state versus virus infection in the intestines (rotavirus) and the lung (RSV). The content of the position will be Research only. Some teaching opportunities, such as guidance of students within the lab, may arise. It may also involve handling other assignments to a very limited extent.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. The candidate should also have a background in immunology or virology. A solid knowledge of cellular immunology methods will be extremely helpful. The project will also include some computational approaches, so an understanding of systems biology will be a big plus.

We offer
We offer an interesting and challenging job in an international environment focusing on education, research, public-sector consultancy and innovation, which contribute to enhancing the economy and improving social welfare. We strive for academic excellence, collegial respect and freedom tempered by responsibility. The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is a leading technical university in northern Europe and benchmarks with the best universities in the world.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

The laboratory is located in Frederiksberg on the DTU Vet Campus. The period of employment is 2 years.

Further information
Further information may be obtained from Head of Section Thomas Kledal, +45 20121656 or from Senior Research Scientist Katharina Lahl, katharina.lahl@gmail.com.
