At Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science, Institute of Art and Music, the newly established Chair of Systematic Musicology/Music Cognition is looking for
1 Postdoc / 3 PhD Students (E 13 TV-L)
to begin at the earliest possible date. The positions are initially limited until 31 October 2017. The period of employment is governed by WissZeitVG/TzBfG. The postdoc position entails 100 %, the PhD positions entail 50 % of the fulltime weekly hours.

Tasks: The successful candidates are expected to contribute to research work in the context of the chair. The positions will be associated with research projects in music theory, music and language, music psychology and computational modeling and involve music theoretical formalisation and modeling, planning and conducting empirical cognitive research (experimental or computational), data analysis and the preparation of publications. The positions also involve interaction and supervision of Bachelor and Master students. Candidates may pursue their own research projects, the possibility of further academic qualification is given.

Requirements: very good Doctoral resp. Master or diploma degrees in the fields of music cognition, systematic musicology, music theory, experimental psychology, computational cognitive science or related areas. We expect specialised knowledge in at least one of the fields of music psychology, cognitive computational modeling and/or music theory.

We require very good analytical skills, experience in planning and conducting empirical research, statistics and data analysis, programming, knowledge of common software packages. We expect very good command of English language as well as interest in international research trends and discourse in music cognition, as well as team spirit, the ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary collaboration. Further knowledge of linguistics, computer science, biology or other related areas as well as knowledge of sound technologies and sound processing is of advantage.
