Job description
As Assistant Professor of Accounting you are part of the Chair of Business Economics at the Department of Economics and Business Economics of the Nijmegen School of Management. The position includes both teaching and research tasks. You will provide high-quality courses in financial accounting and reporting and corporate finance in the Bachelor’s programme in Business Economics and the Master’s programmes in Accounting and Control and Corporate Finance. This includes the supervision of Bachelor's and Master's theses. Furthermore, you will conduct high-quality research in the field of financial and management accounting, corporate governance and control, corporate performance, organizational behaviour and sustainability/integrated reporting.
The Chair of Business Economics covers the broad field of business economics but has a specific focus on governance, accounting and control in the setting of inter-organizational relations and networks. There is also a strong focus on fundamental theory-driven research using a mix of quantitative and qualitative methods. Specific research themes of the Chair of Business Economics include effectiveness of corporate governance, quality of corporate financial and sustainability reporting, strategic performance and risk measurement and management, trust, control and governance in intra- and inter-firm relations, effectiveness of inter-firm relations, organizational learning and innovation.
Requirements
- you should hold a PhD in Business or Economics, or be close to completion of a PhD;
- you should have the potential to build a record of excellence in both teaching and research in business economics in general and finance in particular. This should be evidenced by (i) good teaching evaluations, (ii) willingness to complete the Junior University Teaching Certificate (if not already obtained) within the first four years of your contract, and (iii) a pipeline of submissions, revise-and-resubmits and publications in leading international journals in the field of business economics;
- experience with the acquisition of research funds would be a plus;
- you must be fluent in both spoken and written English.

A gross salary between € 3,399.00 and € 4,654.00 (scale 11), depending on experience and qualifications;

The Nijmegen School of Management is an academic centre of research and higher learning. It has seven focus areas: Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics, Social and Political Sciences of the Environment, Human Geography and Spatial Planning. The NSM strives for a multidisciplinary approach whenever possible. Altogether, the faculty employs 220 full-time staff, of whom 75% are academics.
The NSM awards Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in the above-mentioned seven fields of study, which are organized in the NSM’s educational institute. The educational programme is based on a system of small-scale teaching and provides a stimulating learning environment with an emphasis on the development of academic skills. The Nijmegen School of Management has about 3,000 students. The NSM’s research activities are governed by the Institute for Management Research (IMR), which has the equivalent of 80 full-time staff. The Department of Economics and Business Economics consists of four Chairs: Economic Theory and Policy, International Economics, Finance, and Business Economics. The department is responsible for the development and quality of the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Economics, as well as for the courses in economics in the other educational programmes of the faculty. What sets the Nijmegen curriculum in Economics apart is that it is characterized by a multidisciplinary approach, whereby in addition to the economics discipline, inspiration is sought from other areas.
