Postdoc position (Medicinal Chemistry)

The Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology - Hans Knöll Institute - (HKI, www.leibniz-hki.de) investigates the pathobiology of human-pathogenic fungi and identifies targets for the development of novel natural product-based antibiotics. The Department of Biomolecular Chemistry encourages talented and highly gifted candidates to apply for a
Postdoc position (Medicinal Chemistry)

starting from May for 24 months initially.
The successful candidate will work within the framework of a research project funded by the Leibniz Association on drug discovery with novel antibiotic concepts.
Main topics of the project will include:
Organic synthesis involving natural products
Development of site specific coupling strategies for small molecules
Isolation and purification of high quality compounds
Analysis of structure-activity-relationships
State of the art physicochemical characterization
Pharmacological profiling (interpretation of in vitro data & bioactivity)
Our requirements: You hold a PhD in organic or natural product chemistry and have profound expertise in modern and classical synthetic methods as well as modern analytical chemistry (NMR, MS, HPLC). Knowledge in the synthesis and design of conjugates involving bioactive compounds is highly beneficial. Experience in the isolation and purification of trace components, particularly polar substances would be highly appreciated. Basics in pharmacology and the interpretation of biological activities are a further plus. We would like to welcome a highly motivated co-worker with excellent communication skills and the ability to work on an interdisciplinary and translational project.
We offer you an innovative project with a promising perspective and laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation. The collaborative and constructive atmosphere at the HKI provide ideal conditions for the success of your project. As a postdoc you will be a member of the Friedrich Schiller university graduate academy, which offers excellent competence courses. You will be hosted in the Department of Biomolecular Chemistry (Prof. Dr. Christian Hertweck).
Salary (full time) is paid according to German TV-L (salary agreement for public service employees). As an equal opportunity employer the HKI is committed to increase the percentage of female scientists and therefore especially encourages them to apply.
