Postdoc Positions in Epidemiology

The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) is a center of excellence within the Helmholtz Association that performs translational research on neurodegenerative diseases. The center includes nine high-performing sites in Berlin, Bonn, Dresden, Göttingen, Magdeburg, Munich, Rostock / Greifswald, Tübingen and Witten.

Within the area of population research we have
Postdoc Positions in Epidemiology
− Code 1231/2014/2 −

Description:

Population research at the DZNE aims to study determinants of normal and pathological mental and physical function over the adult life course, with a special emphasis on neurodegenerative diseases. To this end the team, led by Prof. Monique M. B. Breteler, Director of Population Health Sciences of the DZNE, is establishing the Rhineland Study, a prospective population based cohort study that will include up to 30,000 people aged 30 years and over. The cohort emphasizes extensive phenotyping. The study facilities encompass 3 recruitment centers equipped with state-of-the-art apparatus including 3T MRI scanners (Siemens Prisma), advanced bio-banking facilities and large data storage and computational resources.

We are looking for highly talented, motivated, enthusiastic and ambitious researchers to join our research team. Responsibilities include development and implementation of relevant study protocols, supervision and monitoring of data acquisition and processing, analysis of data and preparation of manuscripts for publication in international journals. Additional tasks for postdocs / research fellows are mentoring of graduate and PhD students, and initiation of new research projects.

We are especially looking for candidates (f/m) for the following research topics:
Parkinson disease and other movement disorders, movement analysis/gait, vascular (neuro-)epidemiology, infections, inflammation and immune status in neurodegeneration, cognition, biomarkers and risk factors of neurodegenerative diseases, cerebrovascular disorders

Qualifications and experience:

Successful candidates hold a PhD in epidemiology, medicine or other relevant discipline. Demonstrable interest in quantitative research, strong analytical skills, ability for independent and critical thinking, and excellent communication and writing skills in the English language are a prerequisite. Working experience in epidemiological research or large-scale studies is highly desirable.

Creative and team-oriented candidates, who dare to take initiative and enjoy working in a fast-growing, dynamic research environment in an internationally oriented biomedical institution, are strongly encouraged to apply. For further information, please contact Prof. Monique M. B. Breteler (rhinelandstudy@dzne.de).

Employment, payment and social benefits are determined by the Public Sector Collective Agreement (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst). Job location is Bonn, Germany. Common language at work is English. The DZNE is an equal opportunity employer. The DZNE especially welcomes and encourages disabled individuals to apply. The position is initially limited to two years, extension is possible.

Interested candidates should send their applications including CV with full publication list, the names and contact information of three references, and a summary of research interests in a single file to application@dzne.de.

References may be taken up as part of the candidate selection and prior to interview. Applicants who do not wish referees to be contacted without prior notice and consent should make this explicitly clear on their application.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
