The GESIS department FIS is looking for candidates to fill a research position for a Post-Doc in Data- and Web-Science (salary according to German tariff TL-V 13, initially for 4 years) in Cologne, Germany.

The ideal candidate has experience in one or several of the following fields:

Analysis and mining of social media and/or social streams
Large-scale data processing environments and studies
Clustering and classification algorithms and methods
Human computation and crowd sourcing platforms
User modeling and usage mining algorithms and techniques

The candidate is expected to conduct cutting-edge applied research in one or several of the following domains:

Social computation and computational social science
Big Data, Linked Data and Collaborative Ontology Engineering
Web-Science and Web observatories
Digital libraries and science 2.0 information systems

The candidate should have completed (or should soon complete) a PhD in Computer Science. The ideal candidate has a demonstrated record of independently designing and conducting research and publishing results in competitive conferences and journals. The open position is intended to serve as a platform for promising young researchers (i) to strengthen and develop their own research profile, (ii) to conduct and publish highly competitive research, (iii) to acquire research grants and (iv) to build their own research group.

GESIS offers an exciting environment for interdisciplinary and competitive research on the intersection between computer-, information- and social sciences. GESIS is a research and service organization that provides a research-driven infrastructure for the social sciences and closely collaborates with computer science and social science departments at top universities in Europe and Northern America. Candidates with a strong research record will qualify for extensive allowances for research visits and collaborations with partnering universities. There is an opportunity for the candidate to participate in teaching as well as to pursue a habilitation (a qualification for Full Professor positions in some European countries) at University of Koblenz-Landau.
