Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) seeks outstanding applicants in the areas of chemical metallurgy, transport phenomena in materials processing, and ferrous and nonferrous pro­cess metallurgy at the Associate or Full Professor level.

Information about the department
The Department has responsibility for the following disciplines: inorganic chemistry, inorganic and ceramic materials science, electrochemistry, electrochemical energy technology and corrosion, phy­sical and process metallurgy with emphasis on light metals and ferroalloys. Specialization in thermo­dynamics, kinetics and materials characterization is the main basis for research and education carried out by the Department staff. At present the Department has 19 professors, 7 associate professors, 14 adjunct professors and about 70 research fellows.

Job description
The Professorship will be part of the Process Metallurgy Group that has a strong history in chemical metallurgy. The intent is to revitalize this area to complement our existing strengths in metallurgy and materials processing while at the same time aligning with recent strategic directions of sustainability and energy efficiency in extraction of metals from primary and secondary resources using both pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical methods.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will show leadership, innovation and excellence in teaching and research in one or more of the following areas: process/extractive metallurgy; sustainable materials processing; chemical/metallurgical thermodynamics and kinetics. Experience from modelling of different pheno­mena within these areas would also be an advantage. Applicants will be expected to contribute to existing research and teaching programs, and to develop programs within the areas listed above.

Emphasis will be placed on supervision and teaching experience. Evaluation of the applicant will be based on documented material, including teaching experience at university level, pedagogical training, presentation of academic work, experience from supervision and teaching of master- and PhD candi­dates, as well as other related skills.

Good cooperation and communication skills, a strong research network, as well as ability to initiate and manage research projects will be regarded positively in the evaluation process.

Academic staff that is unable to document formal pedagogical qualifications in university-level teaching is required to successfully complete a recognized course that gives a pedagogical qualification in uni­versity-level teaching within two years of taking up the appointment. Courses are available at the University.

Outreach qualifications of applicants, as well as the ability to attract external funding, will also be taken into account and considered an advantage.

Terms of employment
The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Emp­loyees and Civil Servants.

The position as Professor/Associate Professor is remunerated according to the Norwegian State salary scale. There is a 2% deduction for superannuation contribution.
