The Institute of Philosophy invites applications for a full-time time, long-term position as academic archivist and postdoctoral researcher of the Husserl Archives, KU Leuven. We are looking for a highly motivated person with a profound interest in Husserls philosophy in its historical context and development as well as in its continuing philosophical importance, who is prepared to dedicate him/herself to the advancement of the Archives’ mission and to the care of the Archives' collection. In addition to assisting the director of the Husserl Archives in the management of the Husserl Archives, its administration, its archival tasks, its research and its services to the scholarly community, the hired person will be expected to take on some limited teaching and thesis supervision associated with the Husserl Archives at the Institute of Philosophy, KU Leuven.
Starting date: preferably by 1 June 2016.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to perform the following tasks under the supervision of the director of the Husserl Archives:

Contribute substantially to the long-term planning, management, and execution of the professional maintenance and organization of all contents of the Archives (including digitalization).
Support ongoing and future work on transcriptions and book series based at the Archives.
Conceive and implement ways of protecting, preserving and optimizing the use of the collection into the future (including fund raising, organization of events, etc.).
Facilitate on-site and online access to the Archives' collection; advise international researchers and public users, and respond to enquiries regarding archival contents.
Support the submission of grant applications based at the Archives in relevant areas of research.
Occasionally teach seminars and/or courses and supervise selected theses on Husserlian thought, or related topics

Profile

Candidates are expected to have:

Demonstration of scholarship in the domain of Husserl’s phenomenology and/or phenomenological philosophy (PhD in Philosophy).
Experience in archival work; or interest and willingness to acquire the requisite professional skills for archival work, and to begin training as soon as possible upon appointment.
Ability to transcribe Gabelsberger shorthand, or willingness and ability to the requisite skills within one year of appointment.
Experience in the realization and administration of research projects.
Demonstrated qualification to teach courses and seminars to graduate and undergraduate students, and to supervise theses on Husserlian thought, or related topics.
Native level German (speaking, reading and writing).
Fluency in English (speaking, reading, and writing); passive knowledge of French may be of advantage.
Fluency in Dutch (speaking, reading, and writing), or willingness and ability to acquire the requisite language skills within the first three years, and to begin such training within the first year of taking up the position.
Collegiality, efficiency and initiative, and a talent for organization and communication.

Offer

We are offering full-time employment as academic archivist and researcher (at the rank of ’postdoctoral researcher’), and a competitive salary and benefits package, depending on qualifications and experience of the candidate.
