PhD and Postdoc positions

The Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt, Germany, investigates the attentional, cognitive and affective mechanisms of aesthetic perception and evaluation.

The Institute currently offers
PhD and Postdoc positions

for projects regarding the aesthetic perception and evaluation of language and literature. PhD positions are awarded for a period of three years (with a possible extension of one more year); Postdoc positions vary in duration, depending on the type of contract. Starting date is flexible.

Applicants should hold an MA (for PhDs) or a PhD degree (for Postdocs), have an excellent record in their respective disciplines (psychology, literary studies, linguistics, computational linguistics, or neuroscience), be interested in cooperations across disciplines and prepared to work in a multi-language environment.

Applicants should submit a 5-10 pages prospectus of their research project, or at least a sketch of ideas, along with two reading samples.

Salaries are determined following the salary scale E 13 (German TVÖD/Bund); substantial social benefits come on top of the salary. PhD positions typically are 50% positions.

The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals. Furthermore, the Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.
